ReplyDeletein class Ms.Budney is teaching us alot of properties. Such as the distributive property which means when you give out/distribute a number outside of the perenthesis with numbers inside the perenthesis. for example -8(4r-1/4s) distribute the negitive 8 to 4r and you'd get -32r then distribute the negitive 8 to -1/4 and to do that you have to do -8/1(-1/4) that equals 8/4 which simplified is 2 so your answer would be (-32r+2s). Another property Ms.Budney thought us was the additive inverse. which is two numbers that add together and equal 0. for example -16y squared + (+16y squared) which equals 0. the commutative property does apply to subtraction but not to division. the commutitive property is when you can subtract numbers in any order and still get the same answer. in division this wont work becuase depending on the numbers your answer would be bigger or smaller subtraction it would give you the same answer

ReplyDeleteI think your explanation of the distributive property is detailed and another student would be able to learn from your example. I have a clarifying question for you to ponder. Is subtraction really commutative? Try changing the order of the same numbers. Does it really give you the same result?
